After only forming a year ago, The Younger are onto EP number two already, proving that this band really don’t lack a fantastic work ethos. Have Hope is a 7 track EP showcasing their infusion of anthem filling choruses and mainstream esque rock music, within a market that’s already producing a lot of bands like this, your Deaf Havana’s, your Don Broco’s etc etc..how do the Essex 4 piece fair?
‘Big Escape‘ starts the album to what can only be described as a stadium anthem, Dan Lawrence’s soaring vocals backed by one hell of a catchy chorus make this an opening to remember. The band pride themselves on crafting positive tracks that can be enjoyed by everyone, its mainstream vibe make this song absolutely huge and is a sign of things to come. The harmonious riffs help capture an image of hoards of people screaming these lyrics back, the more you listen the more you are inclined to hum the song for the rest of the day.
‘Heartbeat’ is an upbeat and a positive feeling song, its full of great hooks and crashing symbols, it comes with a high octane feel. The band have found a formula here and it clearly works for them, as their songs implant themselves into your brain, making you want to play over and over again. With the ‘This Light‘ clocking in just over a minute long, its a quick fire song that is sincere and dainty.
The piano work we get on the track ‘Eyes’ is absolutely exceptional, its captivating and fixates you to the soothing opening to the song. It has hit written all over it, the dynamics of the song allow for the melody to really shine through and the vocals to bellow. It’s probably one of the strongest tracks on the album, its melodic riff is backed by some excellent drum work, its one to play over and over again.
Lead single ‘Say My Name’ shows some raspy lead vocals from Lawrence, who exudes raw emotion the minute this track opens. Some atmospheric guitar work, allows the track to have this rock vibe to it, the track has an air of absolute power. The penultimate track is a track to really reflect upon, ‘Binds‘ exudes pure feeling and emotion, its short but very sweet, it’s almost like an interlude before the album closes with ‘Your Love‘. A track that just triumphs, allowing for a pretty memorable ending, its has more unpredictable melody patterns than an episode of Lost, it keeps the listener on their toes and is another track with that stadium rock vibe.
The Younger are on to a winner here, its a shame its only 7 songs long, but nevertheless the Essex boys look to set to become a household name in a matter of no time. Lets hope a full length album is due, so we can really see what these boys are capable off, very promising!
