“Stitches” is the latest track offered by the well acclaimed band Young Guns and a track I must say, that leaves us submerged and entranced. The clarity and extreme vocal power Gustav Wood provides is truly breath taking and rather spine tingling. In many ways it has definite similarities to earlier tracks such as Crystal Clear because the passion is ever present. However what defines it and really sets it apart its heavy contrast between the quieter and more intense parts of the song and its sensitive and cleverly written lyrics.
The introduction is fairly quiet and its intensity is sky high, providing us with piano and a steady bass line, which, in turn makes us eagerly anticipate the impending chorus and what it holds. The song then progresses into the skilful lyrics:
“So I sit here picking stitches I find comfort in decay” – These words really stick in your mind and you truly begin to appreciate how well they fit with the bands style.
The brilliant emotion and gutsy chorus really makes the song what it is, belting out a stream of lyrical genius that would make any songwriter envious. I seem to want to scream the chorus in time with the band just to demonstrate my relation to the track; it’s rather a consuming feeling that seems to ripple through your soul. Another thing is I just can’t quite decide whether it’s the infectious and confident bass line, the breath taking riffs or the beautifully mastered piano that contribute to its awesomeness. The drums in the performance really exhibit intense emotion when the chorus kicks in, creating the most almighty and energetic crash that contrasts to its seemingly quite first verse. It really does rock and is so very captivating.
The passion that seems to be lovingly incorporated into each track that Young Guns produce is also incomparable, few bands on the alternative scene put half as much effort into ensuring that their fans get the full experience from the track, and also they seem to really enjoy making the music too.
I am very sure that “Stitches” will be a big track in the forthcoming year due to its emotive and passionate nature. A true gem amongst many alternative rocks!
