Small Town Records are certainly getting a name for themselves as yet again they sign a downright awesome band. Hailing from Derbyshire, this seven-piece, yes seven, seem to be trying to make their own football team! All jokes aside, Violet are ironically as bright as their name. They release a beautifully colourful EP jampacked with amazing vocals, great guitar work and exceptional tuneage.
We predict they probably get this a lot, and we do apologise if they do, but seriously, have you heard their lead singer? Jonny Nelson is like the UK morph of ex-Emarosa/Dance Gavin Dance frontman Jonny Craig. The high notes this guy reaches in each track are mouth watering. We can only imagine that onstage they exceed even this record’s expectations; just trying to find a stage that they can all fit onto must be an effort in itself!
Standout tracks are no doubt first title track ‘The Brightside’: from the first sound of an explosive guitar riff and screamo vocals from Charlie Bass, the listener is wowed simply by the track’s unpredictability. It dips in and out of screamo and soft vocals with parts of them singing over each other which add to the intense sound of the track.
The dark horse and hidden gem of the record is bonus track ‘Just Like Summer’. The notes Jonny holds in each chorus are jaw dropping for starters, then you are hooked to its catchy chorus and dancey guitar twangs!
If you have yet not heard of these guys then be sure to go and buy this EP: it is literally SO good. HTF are running to Derbyshire with open arms to witness these guys live in action!
