It may not be a name most are familiar with but any fans of post-rock and rising soundscapes need to stop what they are doing and go search for the music of Tides From Nebula. The Polish 4 piece came to life in 2008 and quickly became a name to be reckoned with in their homeland and are now considered one of the countries biggest musical exports. Cut from a similar cloth as the UK’s Oceansize and Icelandic instrumentalist titans We Made God, Tides From Nebula deliver something very special here with latest full length album ‘Eternal Movement’.
Eight tracks in length but, as with most instrumental bands, it is nigh on impossible to review an album like this track by track. This is an album that was made to be and is best listened to in full as a complete work of music. It’s not the sort of album where you would request a track whilst partying at your local rock club on a Saturday night.
It’s sometimes easy to miss vocals with certain bands that rely only on the music to get the point across, thats not the case with Tides From Nebula. At no point do you feel yourself thinking a strong vocal melody would slip nicely there. It’s testament to the band that they are able to get so much power and emotion across with the music alone. Twisting, turning and writhing, with huge builds breaking into ethereal soundscapes. It’s almost like a cathartic release at times and never short of stunning in its beauty and epic outlook.
‘Eternal Movement’ is the sound of a very cocksure band who know exactly what they are planning on doing, they hold no punches and they make no apologies, they literally let the music do the talking here. Mixing haunting guitar melodies with the ambience that comes from the synths, mixed with an intelligent rhythm section, this whole album oozes emotion.
Tides From Nebula have been able to create something very special here with their 3rd studio album. There is every chance that if the band tour it, and are able to deliver live what they can on record, then a lot more people will know the name Tides From Nebula and that would be a very good thing indeed.
