Welsh wonders Straight Lines release new album ‘Freaks Like Us’ next week, a release that has been eagerly awaited by many. As expected from the single releases, the album is brimming with tuneage that has you on your feet dancing for its entirety.
Live this band completely blow you away, sounding as good, if not better, than their recorded efforts. It is impossible to stand still when watching and listening to them. This record is no exception and filled with start to finish anthems.
The obvious mentions for single releases ‘Half Gone’ and ‘Commitments’ must be made, two of the strongest tracks on the album. Sometimes bands seem to release the only good songs and bog their album down with utter rubbish just to produce an album, not Straight Lines! Each track is jam packed with rocking riffs, jammimg chorus’ and down right brilliant song writing. ‘To Be Scene’ is a hidden gem, with breakdowns and lyrics to die for. After the first few plays they are moulded into your brain and have you chanting them alone in your room for hours!
You cannot really single out any track on this album as they are all as brilliant as the last. The unpredictably of the guitar parts in ‘So Many Paths’ for example are awesome. Little surprises like that continue throughout the whole album, establishing this release to be down right awesome.
Overall, this album is by far a stereo hogger for the summer. Pick up a copy on Monday, or we shall slap you. That is all.
