Review : Krewella – Play Harder (Remix EP)

Chicago electronic trio Krewella sound like they are ready to break in to the mainstream… are you ready? Read our review of their latest remix EP here.

Band : Krewella
Release : Play Harder Remix EP
Release Date : Out now!

Fresh Chicago-based electronica crew Krewella have released a 9-track EP, which bases itself upon remixes taken from the ‘Play Hard‘ EP, which was released earlier last year. Back in early 2012, this trio of musicians were relatively unknown, but due to an excess of hype, promotion, and substantial tunes to back it up, 2013 could be the year that Krewella break out in to the mainstream.

The EP compromises of one original track ‘Come & Get It‘, and followed by three remixes of ‘Alive‘, and four remixes of ‘Killin’ It‘. The production on each of the tracks is as crisp and clean by any standards of electronic release released today, so there are definitely no qualms on this behalf.

Come & Get It‘ is a destined club banger, which is upbeat and as body rocking as can be, but it is a select couple of the remixes that particularly shine on this EP to make it worth the while. The Cash Cash & Kalkutta remix of ‘Alive’, and the KillaGraham remix of ‘Killin’ It’ are two particular highlights, displaying elements of 80s synth-pop, chiptune, progressive house, and glitch. That isn’t to leave out the other remixes on the EP which have been done by Pegboard Nerds, Jakob Liedholm, Mutrix, Dirtyphonics, and DJ Chuckie, respectively.

What we have here is a nice collection of remixes and one original, but for me it is not enough to satisfy my curiosity. I want to hear a nice, solid debut album this year! But that is just a minor hitch. The debut EP was classic, the remix EP leaves a bit for the imagination and some great variation, just cannot wait to see what happens next!

Score : 7/10
