Bury Tomorrow are one of those rare bands that are both incredible live and on record, and they have proved this more than ever on their utterly brilliant second album ‘The Union Of Crowns’. It’s pretty hard to describe just how great this record is, but we’ll give it a good bash nevertheless.
Opening with the delectable ‘Redeemer’, sliding into ‘The Maiden’ and then hitting us hard with single ‘Lionheart’ (which boasts the powerful line “You are the one who had my back from the start”) is the best possible start to a record. Second albums are often described as difficult, but this one sounds effortless.
Bury Tomorrow manage to combine screams with clean vocals to complete success. A lot of bands that attempt this formula end up sounding like a dodgy version of Alexisonfire, but they have it well and truly nailed. Frontman Daniel Winter-Bates has an incredibly powerful voice, and guitarist/vocalist Jason Cameron delivers some truly beautiful vocals. On top of the vocals, the band have some incredible riffs and the drums are flawless, and it all adds up to make one completely massive album.
Massive, huge, epic, anthemic: all are words that can be used to describe ‘The Union of Crowns’. It’s a pretty gigantic feat to ensure that there are no fillers on a 14-track album, but Bury Tomorrow have well and truly done it. It’s near impossible to pick out an album highlight as they’re all bloody brilliant, but listen out for ‘Royal Blood’.
If Bury Tomorrow don’t get huge off the back of this album, the whole world is deaf.
