Bursting onto the scene with their debut EP Breaking Out, hard rockers RavenEye have already got some filthy good talent to their name. Despite being a band in its infancy, they are more than ready to deliver on monstrous riffs and epic vocals worthy of rock veterans.

Title song ‘Breakout’ is irresistibly grimy from the off with powerful vocals in touch with the lyrics they sing; a musical assault to be reckoned with. The track’s vivacity ebbs and flows from the down-low bridge to the full-on chrorus but still we are kept waiting on the final push that would transcend this song into stadium-ready rock.

Whatever ‘Breakout’ lacks in oomph, however, is made up in full by penultimate track ‘You Got It’ which delivers by far the strongest sound on the EP. Aggressive from the off and seductive as it is powerful, the track is made by the tantalizingly cool guitar riffs that save the marginally odd bridge.

After two such immense songs, sadly, the rest of the EP is a little disappointing. Second song ‘Get It Started’ sounds as though it was put on the release by accident with its pop-esque chorus and generally rudimental sound. Lyrically, much of this EP can sound clunky and unrefined, as though emphasis has been placed on the sound rather than the words.

Despite their lyrical shortcomings, however, tracks ‘Hey Hey Hey’ and ‘Runaway’ are still both seductively rough and feature some monstrous guitar riffs that prove RavenEye are a band to be reckoned with. Though a mixed release, Breaking Out showcases RavenEye’s vigour and immense talent that easily transcends whatever a debut EP could offer.
