Pvris Show London What They’re Made Of – 07/04/2016 | Live Review

Pvris have accomplished so much in the past 12 months and with a stunning performance at London’s Kentish Town Forum the question we’re asking is: What’s next?!

To say that Pvris have blown up in the space of 12 months would be an understatement. For the Bostonian three-piece to go from playing to a few hundred people in dingy dives last year to a few thousands, in some of the greatest venues, it’s pure fluke. This is what a combination of extreme talent, hard work and endless touring can do for a band who just go from strength to strength.

The banner depicting PVRIS’ debut album White Noise looms on stage as the rumbling anticipation bellows through the Forum, everyone waiting in eager anticipation. It’s clear that the crowd know this album back to front, as when the album opener ‘Smoke’ echoes through the venue the singing is hauntingly loud, but it’s second track ‘St. Patrick’ where the chaos unfolds as the crowd becomes a sea of bodies and flailing arms. The band thrive from the crowds reaction and enthusiasm which continues through ‘White Noise’ and ‘Fire’.

There are few moments to catch a breath as we realise how massive the album sounds, yet slower tracks such as ‘Holy’ and ‘Only Love’, which are predominantly played on the acoustic guitar, add yet another dimension to the band. Lynn Gunn’s commanding, strong vocals echo through the venue and her true power shines through during these tracks.

It is incredibly hard to not be transfixed and mesmerised by the 22-year-old, who in a genre dominated by men more than stands her ground. She’s strong, agile, talented and has a lung capacity to be enviable of. Her confidence exudes throughout the set, yet there’s still a vulnerable edge to the star and the emotion that her voice can convey lets Gunn shine.

Each track thunders through the venue and it’s hard to tell pick a stand out moment from the show from the lively ‘My House’ to the climactic sound of ‘Let Them In’. Yet it isn’t just the music that’s polished; they’ve paid attention to the visual aspect of the show and created a performance which allows the songs to truly come alive with the help of smoke machines and strobe lighting. The band are well and truly set for arena stardom.
If you haven’t heard of PVRIS, firstly where have you been?! But secondly grab their album, blast it at full volume and don’t make the mistake of missing their next tour. You will regret it.
