Mourn are a new four piece grunge band from Catalonia that are already stirring up interest with the release of their debut self-titled album. With band members Jazz Bueno’s (Guitar/Vocals) ,Carla Perez Vas (Guitar/Vocals) and Antonio Postius (Drums) at only 18 years old, and bassist, Bueno’s sister Leia, younger still at 15, they aren’t shy to scream and shout. Offering a heavy mix of The Joy Formidable, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Be Your Own Pet, it’s clear that these four were definitely the cool outspoken kids at school dressed in black that everyone secretly wanted to be friends with.

Bueno’s raspy voice kicks off the album with ‘Your Brain Is Made Of Candy’ setting the tone for the album with solid guitar riffs and solemn lyrics tainted by a previous relationship. ‘Misery Factory’ brings in a faster rhythm and more harmonies between the band, continuing throughout the LP. That teen angst we have all felt at one time is perfectly amplified in this album; the record is clearly meant to be played loud.

The young, impulsive nature of this group is reflected in the buoyancy of the tracks only lasting around two minutes per song. This may not be the album for everyone, with its heavy nature, deep lyric choices and all round spontaneity; it isn’t one to relax to that’s for certain. However, the talent these young artists hold is undeniable and having already played a date in the UK last year and Eurosonic festival this year they have a lot more lined up.
