Since the release of their debut album and their relentless touring schedule, Moose Blood have seemingly jumped aboard a rocket flying upwards that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. With their brand of highly emotive, poppy emo tunes; this really should come as no surprise. At this point, if you still haven’t heard of the Canterbury four-piece, we want to know what rock you’ve been hiding under! Moose Blood are currently out on tour, and we went check them out on one of the first nights of the European tour in Eindhoven.
The band are no strangers to the city, having recently popped over with Balance and Composure and Seahaven in October of last year. Though these shows are only a few months apart, the difference in crowd response really shows the amount of exposure these fellas have gained in such a short period of time. Sandwiched between what is essentially a very pop-punk bill – opener ROAM and headliner Man Overboard – you could say Moose Blood were definitely the odd one out that night; but the crowd loved them all the same.
Some bands are all about creating a big show, usually fuelled by endless banter thrown around between songs. Moose Blood are not one of those bands. Dialogue with the crowd was kept to a minimal; with vocalist Eddy Brewerton either shyly introducing the next track or humbly thanking the crowd. But that’s alright, when the band can deliver their songs as pristinely as these guys can. We’re there for the music after all, not small talk. Longtime fans of the band may have been disappointed by a set that was dedicated completely to the debut album, but with the amount of success owed to that album, could you really blame Moose Blood for making that choice?
From the first note of ‘Bukowski’ to the final strum in ‘Boston’, Moose Blood was on top form and the crowd was every bit invested. The words sung back at the band echoed off the tiny venue’s walls. Those who weren’t singing along, nodded along in approval while nursing their beverage of choice. This is a band you don’t want to miss out on, as they are arguably one of the best exports in UK rock in recent years. Stunning on record, stunning live.
