Live Review: Yashin – White Rabbit, Plymouth – 08/11/12

We headed to the White Rabbit in Plymouth to see those lovely Scottish lads in Yashin! Check out what we thought of the show here..

Band: Yashin
Support: We Butter The Bread With Butter & Shadows Chasing Ghosts
Venue: White Rabbit, Plymouth
Date: 08/11/12

With a line up as colourful as tonight’s we had perhaps anticipated the room being a bit more packed out than it seemed. However, as Shadows Chasing Ghosts took to the stage the crowd seemed to thicken and we are not surprised, these guys mean business! Lead vocalist Trey Tremain gets so into his performance it is beyond great to watch. Throwing himself around the stage and into the crowd, he made the show exciting from beginning to end.

Just what was needed to start us off tonight, over exhilarate frontmen, fast paced drumming and catchy tracks. This band definitely deserved to be higher up the bill tonight..

Next up was something beyond what we thought it was going to be. We had heard the odd good and bad comment about this German four piece but never had we expected what we were about to witness. For starters, a name that does not exactly roll off the tounge that easily kind of gives you a bit of a bad vibe in the first place but we ignored the signs and soldiered on. We Butter The Bread With Butter entered the stage and the onlookers seemed pretty up for it. Then the torches in the pockets came out, as did the big balls and exploding confetti? Sometimes this can be totally awesome and add to the vibe of a show but the music the band were kicking out just did not match their cameo attire; it was far too busy and overwhelming to take in! The pig squeals, the dance moves, the hideously dark breakdowns were just too much.

We tried to get into it and at times it even sounded great but then another high pitched pig squeal would give you the shock of your life and you were right back to not understanding what on earth was happening. For a band that we were more than intrigued to see tonight we were left slightly confused; this is the first time We Butter The Bread With Butter had played in the UK and we question if their German metal was a bit too much for their UK listeners.

As Yashin stormed on stage our faith was restored in tonight’s show. They smashed straight into new album delight ‘Runaway Train’, a favourite from ‘We Created A Monster’, and the young audience in front of them went completely mental; it was obvious who they all came to see tonight then. This track houses quite possibly the best drop in their whole set tonight and we were loving it.

They cleverly hand picked their cracking tracks from top notch new album, ‘Angels Son’, ‘The Last One Standing’ and ‘<4’. All three tracks have great sing-along moments and the vocals sounded perfect, sometimes too perfect? We just do not understand how they managed it.

The encore is what did it for us though, covering Linkin Park‘s ‘One Step Closer’ is the best thing the band have done since THAT Britney cover. You all know what we are talking about! They completely remade it into their own sound and everyone watching clearly loved it as much as we did.

The band are touring throughout the UK for another week and then in January are hitting the road again with Londoners We Are The Ocean. Get to a show, jump about and sing along like we did! We promise you will love it!

7/10
