The punk-rock album ‘Split’, produced by Goober Patrol and 7 Day Conspiracy exudes an overall DIY ethic. It’s raw, fresh, authentic… everything you would expect and wish for from a punk collaboration. The album will be released via the US label – Bomber Music on the 1st April.
Goober Patrol have been in the music industry for 23 years and are recognised on a global scale after touring with GreenDay, NOFX and The Offspring, whilst 7 Day Conspiracy have been around for 11 years and have released 3 successful albums and two EPs throughout their long career.
‘Split’ is a… split album (the irony), comprising of two sides, one for each band), which reintroduces the punk notion of swearing, screwing society and freedom of speech back into the current music industry. Proving that punk will never die, the two famous bands quite literally sing about ‘coconuts’ and have a potty mouth that would live up to any 80s punk’s expectations. Although repetitive in parts, we kind of hate to love the album. Good riffs, catchy tunes and a modern take on the classic punk sound.
We like the 7 Day Conspiracy half of the album more, merely because the Goober Patrol half is often dry, repetitive and ‘noisy’. As a stark contract, 7 Day Conspiracy have produced some really catchy, punk-rock tunes which showcase their modernistic spin and their development from the band they used to be into the 21st century alternative.
Kick-starting the album with a track titled ‘Berkshire Hunt’ (this track mainly comprising of the sentence: you’re a fucking c*nt, lovely) and progressing into Goober Patrol’s ‘Coconuts’, it is easy to understand that the split album is a dynamic combination of classic punk and contemporary rock. Following these two introductory tracks, the album launches into two more Goober Patrol tracks, ‘Jacob’s Ladder’ and ‘Man of the People’. We then witness a one track teaser from 7 Day Conspiracy called ‘This Was A Town’, continuing into two more Goober Patrol tracks- ‘Tory’ and ‘That’s The Point’.
The collaborative album concludes with 7 Day Conspiracy’s ‘The Mill’ (a slow-come-pacy track demonstrating the band’s raw vocal abilities) and ‘Sunshine’ (a song where the bands drumming and overall instrumentation are the two biggest focus points).
