The Vamps – 3.5/5
For a band virtually unknown two years ago, the crowd at Hyde Park certainly screamed the loudest as the fresh-faced members of The Vamps bounced onto the main stage on Sunday afternoon. The seemingly unstoppable foursome kicked off their set with top 5 hits ‘Wild Heart’ and ‘Last Night’.
Not content with just singing their own songs – the band also performed a cover of The Killers’ ‘Mr Brightside’ as well as their recent Live Lounge cover of ‘Trumpets’ by Jason Derulo. Both songs were given an impressive Vamp-over, each with such an individual twist that they could have been theirs in the first place. It’s exciting to see such a young band with enough confidence to take on such challenges and completely smash them.
The fast paced set continued with upbeat album track ‘Girls on TV’. Near to the end of the set, lead singer Brad Simpson takes an opportunity to a thank the band’s fans, before performing their new single ‘Somebody To You’ – ending their performance on an energetic high.
Since supporting ¾’s of the headline act, McFly, back in early 2013, The Vamps have certainly found their own identity and grown in confidence. Their blend of cheeky lyrics, guitar led pop music and endearing stage presence makes for a truly enjoyable watch.
