The Northern Irish four piece have been on the road for thirteen years pleasing their audience with the finest rock’n’roll. This time they’re touring with their strongest and catchiest baby titled New Horizon which includes some of the best tacks they’ve ever written such as Spectacular, Concrete and Speak Now. It’s fair to say you could clearly tell they have toured with some significant rockstars. Yes I am talking the all time greatest rock gods, AC/DC. The way they grasped the audience was just overwhelming.
The dark venue with limited amount of artificial lighting coming from the stage definitely added to the performance, highlighting all the dirty and slimy guitar solos. The Brook took its time to fill up, but in the end the place was so crowded there was barely any seats left! With the sound of Negative Creep by Nirvana,:which by the way got the crowd moving more than the support band, the gear got changed and prepared for the main act. As you can probably guess the audience consisted of grey haired individuals wearing Motorhead, Led Zeppelin and Iron Maiden tshirts, probably in their 40s. And as everyone grabbed themselves a pint The Answer jumped on stage and rocked everyone’s mind.
Credit: Chloe IngramThey began with two tracks off their new album which definitely got the crowd singing back at the lead vocalist, Cormac- Who reminded me of Lorde so much! His stage movement, the blonde, bushy hair falling down his face and the hippiest clothes he could probably find in the back of his wardrobe. He looked literally ripped out of 70s. It was completely insane. The rest of the band looked like they were born in a different era. That’s why it was surprising how the whole band as well as their set worked so well. The set list also included Rory Gallagher cover of Cradle Rock and by that point I think pretty much every single person in the room danced their heart off.
Credit: Chloe IngramFinally, when the audience thought the gig’s finished the band came out for an encore. It left everyone in front of the stage happy, sweaty and voiceless but positively pumped with rock’n’roll vibes, and ready for another pint. Overall, the gig was packed with classic rock energy, and everyone looked like they were having the time of their life, especially this mega fan sitting next to me. He was about 50 years old, singing every lyric so loud I could barely hear the band. It was great to see that no matter what age, the rock spirit never dies.
The Answer are playing Download Festival this years, so if you get the chance to catch them you won’t regret any second of it! I promise you.
