In a recent interview frontman Zachary Cole Smith claimed he “fucked up” his girlfriend Sky Ferreira’s life. Opening up to Stereogum, the musician said he feels guilty about how the couple’s arrest affected Sky’s career. The arrest took place in 2013, when the pair were caught with heroin and ecstasy in New York.
“I fucked up, and it was entirely my fault, and I fucked up my girlfriend’s life. She literally didn’t do anything wrong. She basically was just a passenger in the car with a person who was out of control for a minute. She got in deep shit… Her career got really fucked up because everybody thought she was a drug addict, which she’s absolutely not. That’s the worst part of it for me is that I really fucked her over,” he said.
As a result of the arrest Ferreira lost several modelling gigs, having previously fronted campaigns such as Saint Laurent and Calvin Klein. Despite the ordeal, the blonde doesn’t hold the arrest against Smith. “I did lose out on a lot of opportunities, but it was my fault,” she said. “I was in the car.”
Smith said he is now in recovery for his drug addiction and considers to be “totally clean and sober”.
