Top 10 Rock Albums To Look Out For In 2014

Our Rock Editor runs through the top 10 albums of 2014 that we’re looking forward to at HTF. Check out what made the list here.

In a little over three weeks 2013 will be over and everything from this fantastic year will be a distant memory. 2013 has brought so many fantastic musical memories which we will be reminising over in the next few weeks. But instead of dwelling on the past we are ready to look forward to what 2014 has in store for us.

We’re already excited for 2014, there are some bloody great tours that have been announced, some great festival headliners and of course some albums we can’t wait to wrap our ears around.

In no particular order (except for number 1!) here are our top 10 albums we’re looking forward to in 2014.

1. Bury Tomorrow- TBC
‘Union of Crowns’ was my number 1 album of 2012 so the band have a lot to live up to. As long as there are heavy beats galour we will be happy. With no release date we are going to have to sit tight and wait. The band have already teased fans over social media during the recording process which has at least started if not finished. Dani told Metalhammer earlier this year “expect a harder, faster and more aggressive Bury Tomorrow on Album 3. We are going all out with this one: no holds barred METALCORE!” Everything about this statement makes us very excited! Until the ‘ band showcase some new material enjoy ‘Lionheart’ taken from ‘Union of Crowns’.

2. Of Mice and Men- Restoring Force- January 27th 2014
With a headline tour happening next year and a slot at Reading/ Leeds we are sure a stella album will complete the proceedings for 2014. Frontman Austin Carlile told Loudwire “This new record encompasses everything we have ever released in our short career.” The new album is the first to feature new bassist/ clean vocalist Aaron Pauley who told LoudWire “As a musician, it’s what you always want in a band; a bunch of amazingly talented, open-minded musicians who believe in taking the time and putting in the blood sweat and tears to make great songs, and who aren’t afraid of making something different. I feel like I’ve found my true musical home with this band, and I can’t wait for the world to hear this album.”
The band premiered this track a few days ago and it does nothing to curb our excitement!

3. You Me At Six- Cavalier Youth- January 27th 2014
You Me At Six have been on a complete high ever since their incredible Last Night of Sin show at Wembley Arena almost a year ago. And after the success of ‘Sinners Never Sleep they have a lot to live up to but from the first tracks to be released we’re sure they’re onto a winner already! The band have announced a new tour taking in the legendary Alexandra Palace in London and we’re sure the band will seem just at home here as they did at Wembley. First the band released ‘Lived A Lie’ a track which we couldn’t get out of our heads for weeks, and now they’ve released this beauty. It might keep you going for another 6 weeks!

4. Blitz Kids- Good Youth- January 20th 2014
Blitz Kids are set to release their debut full length release in January and when we spoke to the lads recently they said “We’re incredibly proud of it; this album is easily our greatest achievement as a band. It’s honest, uplifting and it’s got more balls than a Miley Cyrus video.” The band recorded an acoustic version of first single ‘Run For Cover’ for us earlier this year which you can listen to right here. You watch as the band take over the world in 2014.

5. Don Broco- TBC
There has been fairly little sad about the follow up to 2012’s ‘Priorities’ but the band have been away earlier this year penning some tracks for the impending album. We’re just hoping on their current UK tour we may be treated to a few new tracks. Until then enjoy one of our favorite Don Broco tracks!

6. Issues- TBC
We have had an EP way back in 2011 and a few random tracks but now we want a full length album to melt away at Tylers voice and groove along to all the catchy beats. Rise Records announced that the band were working on the album earlier this summer and that it was due out in Spring 2014. This will coninside with the bands tour with Of Mice & Men perfectly. Take a listen to ‘Hooligans’ the first track fromt the bands impending new album.

7. Enter Shikari- TBC
Enter Shikari are taking some time off to work on new material which means a severe lack of touring in 2014. Whether this means a new album next year who knows but we will keep our fingers crossed until it happens. While we wait for some new music let’s blast back to 2006 and take a listen to ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’.

8. Blink 182- TBC
A matter of days ago Blink 182 were announced to headline Reading and Leeds Festivals again and then there was the small matter of new material to think about. The band announced that they will be releasing a new album in the lead up to the festival. Will the band go back to their days of dick jokes or have the band completely grown up?! Only time will tell. Take a listen to a track from latest album ‘Neighbourhoods’ right here.

9. Foo Fighters- TBC
It’s been a while away for Foo Fighters but they made their live comeback recently in Mexico and Grohl said to XFM back in August “I think next year is going to be a really big year for the Foo Fighters without question.” He added: “We are going to make this album in a way that no-one’s ever done before, and we’re pretty excited about it.” We’re just as excited as you Dave! The band have such a back catalogue of tracks so give ‘The Pretender’ a whizz right here.

10. Rumours- Letter From The Memory- February 3rd 2014
Rumours will be releasing their debut full length release in early 2014 and hopefully the world beyond the Kerrang unsigned show will start taking notice. We’re pretty excited for the album to come out so listen to ‘Just A Kiss’ right here.
