Rat Attack | Interview | May 2014

We had a chat with Rat Attack after their set at Hit The Deck. Check out what happened here.

Rat Attack could have had an uncertain future when their vocalist left, but instead of letting it deafest them they got their roadie on vocals and have been auditioning for a new vocalist. The band have been playing the circuit of festivals with Hit The Deck alongside and plenty more coming up including Camden Rocks and Redfest.

We had a chat with the band after their Hit The Deck set about the search for a new vocalist and what the future has in store for the band.

HTF: How did your set go at Hit The Deck?
Rat Attack:
Yeah our set went a lot better than expected considering our situation of not having a singer.

HTF: Did you manage to hang around across the weekend and check out other bands?
RA:
I think we all watched some of Brand News set. But that was it really. We always say we’re going to watch so and so band, but never do ha.

HTF: Did you find any difference between the Bristol and Nottingham shows?
RA:
Bristol’s crowd were a bit more lively. But apart from that, they were both great crowds. It was cool to look out on both days and see people singing our songs.

HTF: At the moment you’re searching for a new vocalist and have your roadie standing in. Have you met anyone who feels right for the band yet?
RA:
At the moment, we are not at liberty to discuss anything to do with the auditions. All top secret stuff!

HTF: After Mike left the band you had to wing it playing shows with your roadie. Do you feel proud of what you achieved from playing those shows?
RA:
We are all very proud of the fact that we’ve carried on playing these last few shows despite what’s happened. We just want to let people know that we’re not ready to throw in the towel just yet. And we’ve been lucky enough to have had help from some of our best friends. If it wasn’t for them, it would be a completely different story.

HTF: After Hit The Deck you’ve been confirmed for Camden Rocks and RedFest. How do you feel festivals compare to standard venue shows?
RA:
Behind the stage at festivals is a lot different than a venue. Everyone has to be on the ball, with setting up equipment and making sure bands go on and come off stage on time. Everything is certainly a lot more stressful.

HTF: You released an EP last year, have you started writing new material for another release yet?
RA:
Funnily enough we had pretty much a whole albums worth of material ready to be recorded. Obviously now we have to put that on hold, until we find a new singer.

HTF: What does the rest of 2014 have in store for Rat Attack?
RA:
Our main focus now is finding the right person to sing for us. We’re not going anywhere! If anyone reads this and thinks they’ve got what it takes to sing in Rat Attack, then get in contact with us, and you could be rocking some big crowds in the near future. Watch this space!
