The Valiant are a five piece metal core band hailing from Southampton. The band have been together for over four years now and in January released their debut full length album ‘Empress Heights’. You can check out what HTF thought of the album right here.
We managed to catch up with drummer Dan Moss. Check out what happened right here.
HTF: For those people out there who haven’t heard of The Valiant how would you describe your music?
Dan: I guess we would describe it as heavy, fast in places, melodic, riffy, ballsy and loud
HTF: You guys are from Southampton: how did you find the music scene there as you were starting out?
D: Southampton music scene started of really well for us and we had a lot of friends in bands around the time we started which unfortunately are not together any more but people still come to shows and there are some great bands still about!
HTF: Southampton is the home of Takedown Festival, have you ever been there?
D: Yeah we’ve all gone along a few times now! Seems like a great festival hopefully we’ll get a chance to play it one day!
HTF: Your debut album ‘Empress Heights’ came out last month. You got 3 K’s in Kerrang and we gave it a 7/10. How else have you found the reaction to it so far?
D: The reviews and write ups have been mind blowing to be honest! We really didn’t expect the great responses we’ve had so far, we’re so grateful and humbled by all the nice words everyone has given us!
HTF: You chose to stream the album before it’s release. Why did you decide to do this?
D: We had the opportunity to have the album streamed on the Rock Sound website, we were stoked that they put it up! We really wanted to just get people listening to us as this was our first “proper” release and having it up on one of the most prestigious magazines that caters for our genre was awesome! They also included us in the “Exposure” section of the magazine too which again was amazing for us!
HTF: Are you completely happy with the finished product of the album?
D: Yeah we’re definitely happy with how it came out, we would have liked a little more time to prepare for it but we’re already writing again and demoing early on so we’re ready for the next record!
HTF: You played an album launch hometown show last month, how did you find the support from your home town?
D: The support we get from our home town is always incredible and all our friends and family come out to see us which is always nice!
HTF: Being a metalcore band what makes you different from all the other bands out there at the moment?
D: We’re not trying to be different or go against the grain as such we’re just having fun with what we’re doing and that’s the way we plan on carrying on.
HTF: What are your biggest goals for 2014?
D: Play shows, tour and meet new people.
HTF: Can we expect a tour from you guys in support of the album?
D: Yes! We have a few things being planned as we speak! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details!
