Hard rockers High on Fire have just released a barrage of details for their seventh studio album, ‘De Vermis Mysteriis’, complete with album art and a full tracklist. The first song, ‘Fertile Green’, can be checked out here – it’s a low frequency rumble through some of the album’s bizarre yet awesome themes.
The album is packed full of explosively supernatural concepts, taking its name from a fictional grimoire created by Psycho writer Robert Bloch. ‘De Vermis Mysteriis’, or ‘Mysteries of the Worm’, was heavily incorporated in H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos – and it’s this epically deranged, hellbent mythology that High on Fire have taken inspiration from. For starters, some of the album’s content follows some pure stoner rock concepts like a Jesus twin that can see the past through the eyes of their ancestors, time travel, and mystical serums made from the petals of black lotuses. If that’s not enough to intrigue you, nothing will.
For forty five minutes of bone grinding bass lines and adrenaline fuelled stoner metal, this will definitely be the year’s top release – it’s guaranteed to be frantic and unstoppable, aiming to rip apart the modern metal scene with a unique and powerful sound.
