The thrash metal monsters of Gwar have launched a new foundation in memory of Dave Brockie, who died last month.
The 50 year old was most well known as Oderus Urungus, the lead vocalist for horror fuelled metal band Gwar, who was found dead by his band mates last month. The band announced that he had ‘passed away peacefully in his sleep’, but no real cause of death has been announced.
The surviving members of Gwar have also announced that they’ll be creating a monument for their fallen comrade in the band’s home of Richmond, Virginia, and will also be holding a public memorial there on August 15th.
The band themselves have released a statement with regards to the creation of the foundation:
“We would like to thank fans and friends for their outpouring of love. Our intention is to honour Dave, preserve his legacy and continue to share his brilliant works with the world. The Dave Brockie Foundation is a charity with the mission of promoting the advancement of music, images, letters and performance in the arts. It intends to be a support system to those who have dedicated their lives in pursuit of creativity. It will encourage promising talents as well as preserving the legacy of Dave’s work.”
