If you haven’t heard of Everybody Looks Famous then it’s about time that changed. The five piece pop-rock band are female fronted but don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re tame. It seems the girls are taking over at the moment!
The band have already featured in Kerrang and on Radio 1, so it’s time you all took notice of them!
Check out what happened when we had a chat with the band below, and while you’re there scroll down to check out their track ‘Thoughts’.
HTF: Hey everybody, how are you all doing?
Everybody Looks Famous: Hi!! We are great thank you! Busy as always!
HTF: How did you all meet and how did the band ‘Everybody Looks Famous?’ form?
ELF:

Tom started the band in like 2008 with Phil, with Grace joining later in that year. We have had a load of line-up changes since then and we did a load of small local shows and worked on our songwriting. Lex joined the band in 2011, and there were a lot of songs already written when she joined so it was a case of Lex making her mark on the tracks and writing brand new material. Lex joining the band was the real turning point for us. We started to tour and play a lot more shows with the new material that we were writing. Joe then joined the band in late 2012, which was awesome because he came from a very pop punk background. This reminded us of our roots a lot and massively changed the way we write our music today.
HTF: How do you think everyone’s reacted to the album?
ELF:

The response we have had from the album has been awesome. Some mixed reviews here and there, but we expect that. Our brand new EP ‘Earth’, which is out June 16th is what we are really excited about! It’s a big step forwards for us in terms of the maturity of the songs and we feel our production has got a lot better. We are just very very proud of it! It’s the first of four EP’s to come as well so we are looking to raise the bar even higher with the next EP!
HTF: Is there anything you’re looking forward to when touring?
ELF:

EVERYTHING. We love touring! Tour is literally playing shows with your friends every night and goofing around and doing fun stuff every day. We literally cannot describe how amazing tour is. Everyone should be able to experience it at least once for sure!
HTF: Anything you’re not looking forward to when you’re touring?
ELF:

I guess the worse thing is missing family at home on long tours but that’s about it. We LOVE touring!
HTF: What is the inspiration behind the band name?
ELF:

It’s a bit of random one really, we heard the phrase in a young knives song when we were in college and we were desperate for name so we picked ‘Everybody Looks Famous’ and it just kind of stuck!
HTF: ‘Thoughts’ seems to be a very passionate song, what was the inspiration behind it?
ELF:

We are glad it comes across very passionately. It definitely is one of our harder hitting tracks. The inspiration behind the track is very much about the band and us as a band. We have been through a lot of things as a band both bad and good and we feel that it has made us who we are today. This is where we going with the track. I guess the passion comes from our love of the band and the music.
HTF: Are those inspirations the same for the rest of the album? (If not, what are those other inspirations?)
ELF:

In some songs yes definitely, but sometimes we try and tell a story of a fictional character or sometimes we tell relationship stories or love interests or whatever. A lot of the time we writ the instrumental and then decide based on how the song sounds and feels about what kind of subject matter will be in the lyrics.
HTF: What are your personal musical inspirations?
ELF: Well we love a tonne of music between the 5 of us. We all like 30 seconds to mars, Four year strong, Foo Fighters, Pierce the Veil. I think listening to our latest EP those influences are definitely the ones that bleed through the most. We also love Motion City Soundtrack, Bruce Springsteen, Alexisonfire, All Time Low, We Are The In Crowd, Architects, the list could go on forever haha!
HTF: As a female fronted band, there may be some sexism towards the band, have you experienced any?
ELF: Not directly to us no! haha! But I guess there must be some promoters that have deliberately not booked on us based on the fact that we are female fronted. It could be for a number of reasons… the main one being that there is already a female fronted band on the bill. We don’t let it really affect us to be honest. We always try and power through everything, we are a very determined bunch!
HTF: What is a highlight from touring as a band so far?
ELF:

To be honest the whole ‘Earth’ tour which we have just done was such a massive success for us and so overwhelming, that is definitely the biggest highlight so far and things can only get bigger and better in our eyes!
HTF: If you could say anything to your fan-base right now, what would it be?
ELF:

You guys are insane! Beyond amazing! We can’t thank you all enough. It’s completely down to you that we have got as far as we have and we will never forget that. To be honest the majority of our fanbase are always at the shows so we speak to them regularly which is awesome. We couldn’t ask for a better fan base.
HTF: Anything you’d like to add before we wrap up?
ELF: We have covered a lot to be fair, we should just mention that our new EP ‘Earth’ will be released June 16th on Go Faster Records and will be available online through all major digital retailers as well as our online merch store http://elfmerch.com in CD format. Thank you guys at Hit The Floor for talking to us! We love forward to speaking to you again!
