Birmingham’s Cytota have announced that they have changed their name to Shvpes to reflect their recent lineup changes and new focus and direction in the world of metal.
The quintet are working on new material for 2015 and were inspired to change their handle by their latest single, ‘Shapes’. Latest addition, vocalist Griffin Dickinson had this to say:
“The short time I toured with Cytota was great, but with our new dynamic, it became clear to us all that the name had reached the end of its chapter. SHVPES represents the start of a new era for this band and I’m immensely excited to be a part of it.”
Drummer Harry Jennings was quick to acknowledge the bands legacy and their new onus:
“Cytota has been my life for the past 5 years. We didn’t take this decision lightly and it feels like the natural thing to do, we have progressed so much in the last few months with the addition of Griffin, that it needed a new name for the new energy and vibe we had. It’s really exciting.”
Shvpes will tour the UK in support of 36 Crazyfists in February, and will also hit the road with Fightstar.
They join the likes of Chvrches and Pvris in replacing vowels with consonants and making it really difficult for music journalists to write about them.
