Indie moguls Arcade Fire have honoured grunge greats Nirvana by playing a small snippet of their classic ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ at a recent show in the latter band’s home state of Washington.

They slipped the tell-tale riff into the start of their own song ‘Rococo’ at the show in George, Washington on Friday August 8th. This follows the Fire’s trend of adding place – specific covers into their set, including The Smiths in London, R.E.M in Atlanta and Jane’s Addiction at a Los Angeles gig.

Frontman Win Butler has spoken before of how Nirvana have inspired Arcade Fire, saying in an interview with Stereogum that “artistically In Utero was a constant source of inspiration. It stands the test of time so well, and ‘All Apologies’ is one of the most beautiful songs ever written”.
