After an absence that seemed to last forever, Mallory Knox are finally back with their explosive new album, Asymmetry, which might just be the album to take the band to dizzying new heights.

The second full-length record seamlessly picks up where the band’s debut album Signals left off, boasting the same affluent and heartfelt characteristics as before but clearly boasting a fresh, innovative approach to songwriting and vocal interaction.

Ghost In The Mirror  is proof of why MK are at the top of the British rock tree; it cements relentless riffs and energetic melodies. We’re already happy to hold our hands up to this album being the strongest thing that the Cambridgeshire five-piece have ever done, coupled with Shout At The Moon clear separating points from the bands early works to their latest sound. With similarities rife throughout this record from their first album, the comparisons are however easily set apart as these two songs tackle some monumental anthems with such conviction and confidence, making them ambassadors for this record.

When Are We Waking introduces a beautifully acoustic side to the otherwise rock heavy Cambridge boys and carries on to include an unexpected orchestral element, perfectly integrating with the mini-epic that is She Took Him To The Lake. Seven minutes of complete heaven, intertwined with a compilation of big chorus’, smooth melodies and everything that makes Mallory Knox what they are. Heart and Desire and Lonely Hours captures vocalist Mikey Chapman at his best (but then again when isn’t he?!), giving the most almighty performances of the record so far and boasting some of the tightest instrumental talent.

As we near the end of this spectacular 11 track marvel, our spirits have started waver but we’re picked back up by the scruff of our collars and blasts into a punchy walking baseline and an impossible not to bounce your foot track, eventually leading us out with ultimate pleasure of Dare You. This emotional anthem fits our distain perfectly with a sultry vibe of Deaf Havana Influence.

Generally we hear a lot of bands try to punch above their weight and change everything about themselves to adhere to fame and fortune but Mallory Knox have stuck closely to their guns and just perfected what they already know, making Asymmetry one of the most impressive album of this year. It’s only a matter of time before the world realize what MK are capable of.
