If you’re an avid talent show watcher (or just love great music!) then you’ll already have heard of the Loveable Rogues. The lads got through to the live shows of Britain’s Got Talent two years ago and now they’re ready to release their brand new EP Honest, which is due out on 4th May.
The trio Рconsisting of Eddie, Sonny and T̩ Рdescribe themselves as Urban Folk. Imagine catchy lyrics, an acoustic guitar and a ukulele performed from three cheeky lads! What more could you want as the summer approaches?!
HTF recently caught up with Eddie after their first headline UK tour. Check out what happened here!
HTF: Hey Eddie! For those people out there who haven’t come across Loveable Rogues how would you describe yourselves?
Eddie: A lovely bunch of lads trying to nick a living in the music industry. Our sound stems from our up bringing. Because they were completely different it becomes a cocktail of various genres.
HTF: Your EP ‘Honest’ is due out next month. How does it feel to finally be ready to release it?
E: It’s a daunting feeling releasing something – I say this having only released one song previously – because it seems so final. When you sing a song live, it is a moment shared by everyone that night and the next night might be completely different. But a recording lasts forever and so you have to try and capture something that is going to feel exciting every time you hear it.
HTF: Are you more excited about the release or nervous?
E: I love this feeling! We have to try and get as many people to listen and hopefully buy ‘Honest’ as possible. It’s like The Apprentice, except I can’t get fired and Katie Hopkins is nowhere to be seen.
HTF: Have you heard much feedback about the EP yet?
E: I always check our Twitter for feedback and obviously I appreciate the tireless support from our fans but what I enjoy reading most are the things that get my back up a bit. For example the other day someone wrote on Twitter: “So you left Syco because of musical differences? This EP is too acoustic and doesn’t have any of the producers that Syco offered…” Quite a full on and informed tweet. At first you assume he is slagging us off but then when I went to write some sort of childish reply I thought hang about, he’s basing our new chapter/sound entirely on the EP as he hasn’t heard the album, which has awesome production. So I just explained how The EP is all about Honest. It’s the title track and our reintroduction and we didn’t want any of the other songs to over power it with production and so opted for acoustic songs to compliment it, also essentially, the acoustic sound is how we began as a band.
HTF: You performed on Britain’s Got Talent a few years ago do you still think fondly of the experience?
E: The live TV show aspect will always be the most petrifying moment of my life, you are more than aware that the song you are about to sing could potentially change your life and so put the pressure on yourself to make it count. But the show overall was amazing! I loved every second of it. The free food and clothes and with all expenses passed back on to the show we went to town! I would have got cabs to the toilet if Addison Lee provided that service!
HTF: Do you feel that the experience was a stepping stone into the direction you were heading in?
E: We went into that show to tell people who we were and to hopefully get a record deal and I’d like to think we achieved both.
HTF: You’ve just finished a tour across the country, how did it go?
E: Our first headline tour was perfect! Proper venues that smell of sweat and have all your favorite bands’ AAA passes stuck to the walls of the dressing rooms. The fans were amazing – waiting before and after each show and singing along to all the songs they knew – it was perfect!
HTF: Were there any favourite shows? Or were there any other particular highlights?
E: Being from London it is always remarkable to travel to other places and see that we are relevant there and that people like us. In Scotland for example – selling out a show at King Tut’s when I’ve only been to Scotland a handful of times – it’s so humbling and badass. But equally all my family and friends were at the London date and it was the biggest crowd which we definitely thrived off when we were on stage.
HTF: You did meet and greets across the tour. How was it meeting all your fans, the people who buy your music and support the band?
E: I think it’s really important for any artist to realise that it’s the fans that give you a job, not the record labels or managers or anyone else – it’s about you and your music and the fans. I remember when I was younger and went backstage at a Linkin Park gig. It was so exciting and I was in awe, it’s actually nuts to think we are doing those sorts of things now. We got given some really sweet presents as well which is always a nice touch :)
HTF: After the release what are the rest of the plans for Loveable Rogues in 2014?
