When it comes to music videos of late, there really is no other artist who turns them out quite like the pop force that is Katy Perry.
Last night saw the release of her long awaited visual accompaniment for her latest chart topping single, ‘Dark Horse’, featuring Juicy J.
Assuming the on screen persona of ‘Katy Pätra, Queen of Memphis’, Perry serves as a modern day interpretation of the infamous Pharaoh of Egypt, Cleopatra. She’s seen adorning a white bob style wig with blue ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics imprinted on it!
The set consists of Perry sailing on a barge down a river, lots of pink imagery around her throne, a pyramid made of gold and lots of CGI.
Juicy makes his rap appearance by exiting a sarcophagus, wearing a lot of gold! Even on his teeth!
Alike every Perry music video, the one for ‘Dark Horse’ exudes time, effort, planning, flawless execution and clearly a lot of money well spent! It has a high quality finish that no other artist seems to capture at the moment. Perry has built up an impressive portfolio of visuals for her songs, with settings including outer space (‘E.T.’), a military army camp (‘Part of Me’), a jungle (‘Roar’) and of course, Candyforina (‘California Gurls’).
