After topping the U.S. Hot Dance Club Songs chart back in in May with ‘Partition’, her twentieth number one on the chart, Beyoncé has returned to the peak with another cut from her fifth self-titled album.

The singer has extended her lead as artist with the third most number one songs on the chart this week as ‘Pretty Hurts’ ascends to the top after ten weeks charting.

It is her third song from ‘Beyoncé’ to top the chart this year, following ‘Blow’ in February and ‘Partition’ mentioned above.

‘Pretty Hurts’ is nominated for four MTV Video Music Awards in the categories of Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Direction and Best Video with a Social Message.

She will also receive the Video Vanguard Award at the awards show, and will give a special performance on Sunday night (24 August); it will be aired in the UK on MTV the following day at 9pm.

It has become her twenty-first number one song on the chart; she is now trailing just one song behind Rihanna who has 22 chart toppers, and Madonna, who has amassed a staggering 43 number one dance songs in her career.

Beyoncé pulls further away from Janet Jackson, who sits in fourth place with 19, and Mariah Carey, who is in fifth place with 17.
