The Traps have announced their first single from their own Birmingham based indie label Speech Fewapy Records. ‘Calypso‘ is set to set your world on fire from the 21st January next year.
The anthemic synth based beats and melodic guitars will keep any indie based dancefloor buzzing for a good long time.
The single, and in fact their debut album was based quite highly on Homer’s Odyssey, the single’s namesake ‘Calypso’ who captured Homer by leading his ship ashore. Lead singer and guitarist Jamie Berry explains “I’ve always been fascinated by the character of Calypso in the Odyssey. I think it is because her story isn’t really dwelt upon, but she is a tragic and flawed character denied what she desires most and they are always the most interesting. The fact that she is rarely given a voice makes her all the more intriguing and once I’d decided to write about her in this song, the more I thought about it, the more I liked the idea of her story guiding and influencing all the music and lyrics on the record”.
