T in the Park festival will take place at Strathallan Castle in Perthshire from 2015. The event is moving from Balado, near Kinross, its home for the last 18 years – the festival has been held there since 1997 and attracts up to 85,000 people each year. Strathallan Castle is located 20 miles away from the former site and it is hoped that the region will still benefit financially.
The move is thought to be necessary after concerns were raised by Health and Safety Executive chiefs about the Forties North Sea oil pipeline which lies directly underneath the Balado site.
Geoff Ellis, the CEO of DF Concerts who organise the festival, said he was “absolutely thrilled” with the new home: “We’ve had 18 tremendous years at Balado, but now we’re moving on to pastures new – this time with a castle overlooking the site.”
“When it became clear we’d need to leave Balado to safeguard the future of the festival, we became very excited about the prospect of Strathallan becoming the new home for T in the Park. We thought it would be perfect, and it is.”
“More news about 2015 will be revealed soon, but before then, we look forward to welcoming everyone this July for the very last party in Kinross. We’ll make sure Balado gets the spectacular send-off it deserves.”
This year T in the Park will take place from July 11 – July 13, headlined by Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris and Arctic Monkeys.
