Albert Hammond Jr has announced that his band The Strokes want to work on new music before playing live. The guitar player, who will be performing with his band at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York June 7th, wants his band to work on their new album before they go on a full tour.

Talking to Gigwise Hammond Jr said “I know that when The Strokes tour again, it will be because we put something out – even though we didn’t tour the last one,” he says. “Doing a few festivals before you put something out is kind of gearing up the big machine, it just kind of helps everyone get ready, mentally, financially and it brings you back to your audience. You can see the audience’s reaction to your music and you just ‘feel’ again.”

The axeman is currently playing the UK right now, tickets are on sale here and the full remaining dates are below.

Oxford O2 Academy 2 (May 9th)
Birmingham Glee Club (11th)
Nottingham The Bodega (12th)
Bristol Fleece (13th)
London Village Underground (15th)
