Robbie Williams Criticises Britpop and Blur On His Radio Rudebox Podcast

Robbie Williams is at it again, criticising Britpop and Blur’s Alex James. Read what he had to say inside.

Robbie Williams has unearthed his long-time feud with Blur bassist Alex James, insulting his musicianship (or lack of) on the recording of his first Radio Rudebox podcast.

Robbie explained that back when he was 16, he first met Blur during at a TV show filming in Manchester and reflected “From what I now know, looking back, they were suffering from a little bit of middle-class angst. I did feel like I was part of the shit beneath their shoes for being in a boyband.”

He then added “Alex is the bassist in Blur — my nan could do that. All she needs is a new haircut.”

The former Take That singer isn’t all anti-Blur, though, as he admired Damon Albarn as a “majestic songwriter” and expressed that Dave Rowntree could be a “great politician”. He also admitted to loving Graham Coxon’s solo albums, as well.

Williams has made a little bit of name for himself by criticising Britpop bands, but apologised to Shed Seven’s Rick Witter in order to try and make amends. He said “I don’t want to upset him, he’s a nice guy. I’ve met you three times, Rick, we have chatted and we’re on a level. I’m sorry that I slagged your band off.”
