NIrvana 1989A picture of Nirvana’s original record contract has surfaced on Sub Pop’s Tumblr, which displays details of the contract signed 25 years old.

The contract states that Nirvana would receive an initial advance of $600, and Sub Pop have described that as “six hundred bucks well spent – not that we had it at the time”. However, it does get a little more lucrative, stating that the band – made up of Kurt Cobain, Jason Everman, Chad Channing and Kris Novoselic at the time – would receive $12,000 for the first option year, and a further $24,000 for the second option year.

The contract is also valid for “three complete album length master tapes”, but that didn’t happen. In fact, Nirvana released just one album, 1989s Bleach, before moving to major label DGC/Geffen in 1990.
