Manic Street Preachers have announced they are to play seminal 1994 album The Holy Bible in full in a December tour. The tour will take in dates in Glasgow, Manchester, Dublin and London. The album celebrates it’s 20th anniversary this year and the band were strongly rumoured to setting up a tour of the album. Speaking in August bassist Nicky Wire said “It’s been a road test all year – that album was always about something more, so we’ve got to get that in our psyche. This is the first year that we’ve played those songs and felt comfortable, we’ve been doing six or seven. If there’s ever a time to do it, then it’s now.”
Many tracks from the album have been aired on tour so far this year with Wire telling NME that the band would not have considered the tour if the critical and commercial reception for new album ‘Futurology’ wasn’t so strong.
“One of the reasons we might do it is because of the reviews for ‘Futurology’. “If we’d been on a downturn people might have said we’re doing it to make some money or credibility, but we’ve done that already. For a twelfth album, I think most people have been pretty impressed. Is still matters to us [what people think]. Some of the best reviews actually said ‘It’s like a pop-up museum’, and that’s exactly how I felt about The Holy Bible, too.”
