Two Door Cinema Club have had to cancel their headline slot at Latitude Festival (July 17th-20th) due to Alex Tremble recent collapse in Seattle. Lily Allen will be replacing the Ulster trio at the festival.
The band released this statement earlier:
“It is with a heavy heart that we are going to need to cancel our upcoming shows at Latitude and Bournemouth Academy. Alex collapsed at Seattle airport on the way to London and has been hospitalised with a chronic stomach complaint. We are devastated to have to cancel shows that we were so looking forward to. We can only apologise and hope for your understanding at this time.
Love TDCC x”
But a social media has blown up with thousands of fans hailing abuse and admiration at Lily Allen for stepping in at the last minute. Writing on her Twitter account the singer had this to say.
“If you’re going to be rude about my replacing @TDCinemaClub on here, can you just un @ me please ? I’m so exhausted by the nastiness.I understand that you’re disappointed but I don’t think that warrants abuse. They asked, I accepted,I will give it my all, + hope you enjoy.”
It does seem an odd choice, but at this stage how many indie bands are big enough to headline the acclaimed festival and aren’t already booked elsewhere? Maybe Shed Seven, but it seems they have been overlooked once more.
