They are probably the most famous and respected cartoon band in the world and now one of the brains behind Gorillaz has released an unreleased track for the first time!
Damon Albarn, best known for his work with Brit-Pop legends Blur was the mastermind behind Gorillaz (alongside artist Jamie Hewlett), unveiled the track this past weekend whilst being a guest DJ on BBC Radio 2. The track was titled ‘Whirlwind’, which features the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, was originally intended to be on the 2010 album ‘Plastic Beach’ but didn’t make the final cut.
It’s the first fresh material heard from the band since Albarn and Hewlett had a falling out. Albarn has also stated that there is always a possibility Gorillaz could make a new album without Hewlett and also there is also a chance the two could eventually bury the hatchet.
“Jamie wants to do other things and I understand,” he said. “But you never know, in a few years he might have a burning desire to draw those pictures again, and as soon as he does that, as far as I’m concerned, there could be another Gorillaz album.”
