The Blur front man teased a new track from his upcoming album Everyday Robots ( Out April 28) on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which is being broadcasted from the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
Albarn performed ‘Mr Tembo‘ and ‘Lonely Press Play‘ for the live audience. The former being about a baby elephant, Albarn recalled “It was recently orphaned and walked onto this aerodrome; the people I know took it in and called it Mr. Tembo. I was there, and I met this little elephant, and he was very sweet. I sang it to him. It was recorded on a phone, and in a light-hearted moment, I put it on a list for Richard ( Head, album producer). He said, ‘I’d really like you to try that,’ so I did.”
The two songs seem quite a departure from the previous single ‘Everyday Robots’ they are more organic and soulful and more of a nod to the work he has done with Bobby Womack. ‘Mr Tembo’ could even be on a Disney soundtrack. Albarn seems to be up for doing anything in music recently so why not a Disney musical? Surely the milk cartoon from the ‘ Coffee and TV‘ video, is ready for his big screen debut.
