Organisers have confirmed that 38 fans were injured at The Libertine’s British Summer Time gig in Hyde Park last weekend. The event saw eight of those fans hospitalised with ‘minor injuries.’

Safety fears regarding crowd crushing forced the band to halt their headline set three times – one of the interruptions occurred because people had climbed the sound rigging. Frontman Pete Doherty had to warn fans “we can’t carry on if you don’t calm down a bit.”

A 46 year old man is now recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack at the site – the incident happened earlier in the day during The Pogue’s support set.

Event director Jim King spoke to NME regarding the issue: “As a result of crowd pushing at the start of The Libertines’ set, 38 people were taken to the medical centre to be assessed and/or to receive treatment. Of that number, eight were taken to hospital for minor injuries.”

He added that whilst some people were refused entry to the gig for trying to bring in flares, some fans “still managed to smuggle some in.”

“What happened on Saturday is already being fully debriefed with all event agencies involved on the night, and a full report will be completed with recommendations for future years identified.”
