Red Bull Hold Their Own “Illegal” Rave In Hackney!

Who remembers dial-a-raves?

While scanning RPM’s weekly inspirations lists, it appears that last weekend (Saturday April 11th) Red Bull held their very own “illegal” rave in Hackney to pay tribute to the era of “dial-a-raves” back in the 1990s.

Back in the day, these type of raves were common place usually making use of an old warehouse, an abandoned property or even just a field in the middle of nowhere. You never knew how many people would be there, who was performing and the whole thing was kept very secret to stop the event getting shut down by the police.

Bringing the idea a bit more up to date, Red Bull encouraged ravers to take to Twitter and use the hashtag #R1NG2RAVE and were then drip-fed information about the event during the week before to reveal the location and line-up.

Just to take it even further, the brand set up their very own pirate radio station. The RBMA FM station, High Frequencies, was set up to broadcast from the Arcelor Mittal Orbit Tower and revealed event details on the Saturday night a few hours before the event.

The rave eventually took place at Shapes in Hackney Wick as a totally free event with people being let in until the venue was at capacity. The line-up included Moxie, Shy FX, MC Stamina and the legendary Fabio & Grooverider along with MC Lowqui.

You can check out some photos of the event below.
