Research has finally shown why people love bass heavy music so much!
In a study conducted by the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Illinois has found that bass-heavy music makes the listener feel empowered. They had the people involved in the study listen to a lot of different genres of music from Reggae to Hip-Hop, they then measured how much power they felt.
One experiment had participants describing how they felt in relation to the music while another had them do word association. The music with higher bass levels generally generated more words associated with power.
Researcher Dennis Hsu said: “Although significantly more research needs to be done before we can truly begin to understand music’s effects on our psychological experiences, I believe our findings provide initial evidence for the potential strategic use of music, especially in situations where people need to feel empowered.
“People might want to explore whether pumping up their favourite tunes can quickly ease them into an empowered mental state before going into a first date, an important client meeting, or a job interview.”
