Oh you betcha he’s done it again! The dance floors infamous big mouth (and big head at that), deadmau5, has made his feelings heard concerning the state of affairs in dance music following a recent EDMBiz conference, which took place in the colourful city of American party, Las Vegas, featuring industry talent including Borgore, Dirty South and Afrojack.
Deadmau5 expressed his views in the comments section of an article on the hit dance site, Beatport, about the EDMBiz conference on the future of modern dance music (or maximisation of profits for all of the mau5 supporters out there), stating that:
“my favorite part: Afrojack said. “If you make good music, you succeed; if you don’t, you won’t.” All the other artists on the panel agreed.
step 1. make good 4/4 128bpm track. step 2. Succeed step 3. step 4. Profit!
I don’t want to live on this planet anymore. *finish track* is it “good”? what do you mean good? good as in sounds like every fuckin other *edm* track out there good? yeah. its great. no… I mean good.
<lie> I hate to carpet bomb here </lie>… but I’m inb4 this whole ordeal gets oversaturated with “good” music. Don’t make good music. Make music that matters to you.”
As well as adding: “I, FOR ONE, WELCOME OUR NEW CORPORATE ‘EDM’ OVERLORDS. *This message was brought to you by Brawndo. It’s got what plants crave!*.”
Joel Zummerman also added to his argument, that:
“I’m inb4 this whole ordeal gets oversaturated with ‘good’ music. Don’t make good music. Make music that matters to you.”
However there were also opinions being made from the opposite end of the table, by the likes of Afrojack, who said that:
“There’s no bubble – it’s simple. If you make good music, you succeed; if you don’t, you won’t.”
Differing opinions on the world of dance indeed.
