While DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ list is often ridiculed and frowned upon by industry critics, their Top 100 Club list is pretty on point. We have been fortunate enough to have visited many of these clubs around the world, from the iconic Space in Ibiza to the dark rooms of Berghain in Berlin, yet quite often it can be all too easy to forget about what’s on our front doorstep in the UK.
As a newcomer to the clubbing scene (in the grand scheme of things), Bristol’s Motion has been quickly rising through the ranks year-on-year. Every year we visit, and we come back more than impressed. Improvements to the layout have often been greeted with open arms, and while splitting off half of Motion to create The Marble Factory has dwindled the club slightly (albeit when they open both clubs as one for larger events), a plethora of other improvements have set Motion on track to what we think will be a top 10 position by next year.
This year we saw a number of tweaks to the club, including a large LED screen and the introduction of lasers, plus a brand new roof that doesn’t leak! If you don’t know what Motion is, it’s a skate park by day, converted into a pumping nightclub over the weekend nights.
The line-up over Winter is known as In:Motion and this year there are a few nights we are particularly looking forward to so you can check out our recommendations below!
The full line-up for Motion can be found here: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/
UKF – 27th November: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/ukf/
UKF has always been at the forefront of the Drum & Bass scene, particularly through their YouTube channel which has attracted millions of views to their hosted videos. Heavyweights and local legends Wilkinson and Fred V & Grafix are among the line-up, which attracts a great crowd that separates itself from the more common ego-filled scenario we tend to find ourselves in with the Drum & Bass scene recently.
Apex 3rd Birthday X Snowbombing – 28th November: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/apex-3rd-birthday-x-snowbombing/
After we attended Apex’s night a few weeks ago featuring Groove Armada, we have fallen in love with the production and quirks that make these nights truly special. This particular night involves the likes of B.Traits, Route 94, Alan Fitzpatrick and Artwork, who always deliver nothing but the greatest of performances.
An evening with Skream – 12th December: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/inmotion-presents-an-evening-with-skream/
With Eton Messy going off in Motion, it’s Skream in The Marble Factory that we look forward to the most. The Radio 1 superstar has demonstrated a super-set of skills on the decks time and time again, provoking the crowd into a party frenzy every time!
Numbers – 19th December: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/inmotion-presents-numbers/
If you’ve never seen Jackmaster play before, now’s the time. Along the same calibre as Skream, Jackmaster joins Ben UFO and Spencer for a night that promises to briefly depart from the norm.
New Year’s Eve: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/inmotion-presents-nye/
& New Year’s Day: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/inmotion-presents-nyd/
New Year’s Day has stolen the thunder for New Year’s Eve this year for Techno fans with the announcement of six rooms, but if you’re into something a little more bouncy, Hannah Wants, Lil Silva, Gotsome and more will be sending New Years Eve into an absolute frenzy, with more acts to be announced.
Above all else though, there are two gigs we’re especially looking forward to. And they’re well on track to a sell out:
Elrow – 5th December: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/elrow/
When it comes to a party, Barcelona promoters Elrow know how to thrown one in style. After their 6 month weekly stint of debauchery at Ibiza’s Space nightclub, Elrow promise an evening of Confetti Cannons, Actors and absolute craziness as they bring their El Bronx theme to Bristol. Be transported to the iconic, cultural melting pot of ‘El Bronx’ at the heart of New York, home to Mafioso, Hip hop, Break Dance and Graffiti as seen through the magical eye of Elrow.
Hot Creations – 19th December: http://www.bristolinmotion.com/listing/nightowl-presents-hot-creations/
Jamie Jone’s label Hot Creations is widely regarded as the most prestigious of labels, and their night promises to fall nothing short of that. Expect Richy Ahmed, Patrick Topping and wAFF to make up the entertainment for a most memorable night.
