Appelsap Celebrates Hip-Hops Forefathers in it’s 2018 Campaign

For 18 years Appelsap’s 3 stages have welcomed DJ’s, rappers and singers. Highlighting the very best artistry within the international hip-hop and electronic scene. By featuring musical royalty as well as ascending musicians, Appelsap has catapulted into worldwide consciousness.

Since its inception, Appelsap has not only been apart of street culture but a tastemaker within it. Acting as a springboard for homegrown Dutch talents like Broederliefde, Lil Kleine, Sevn Alias, De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig and The Opposites during early stages of their careers.

Furthermore bringing over international heavyweights like; Skepta, Kendrick Lamar, Stormzy and Travis Scott to Dutch audiences doorsteps.

Celebrating Appelsap’s 18th year, the organization behind the festival have teamed up with Berlin-based photographer Vitali Gelwich & director Rogier Smalhout. In doing so, the pair has created a 13-image campaign and a short film.

Reimagining some of Hip-Hop’s most influential artists, Gelwich embodies the essence of Hip-Hop royalty through some artists featuring on this year’s exciting bill. Each image consists of an artist from this year’s lineup paying homage to forefathers of the game. From N.W.A to Outkast to Lil Kim, this campaign is a surefire trip down memory lane.

Photographed entirely on photographic film the campaign exhibits Ray Fuego (KRS-One), Bubbles (Lil Kim), Leafs (As 50 Cent), SNIB (N.W.A) and my personal favourite Amy Becker (Missy Elliot).
