After eight weeks of intense cooking, Ping Coombes has been awarded with the title of Masterchef 2014 winner.
Her three course Malaysian inspired meal impressed judges Greg Wallace and John Torode in the final of the cooking competition, aired on BBC last night. Ping beat finalists Jack and Luke, who both praised her on being the best chef in the competition.
Her meal consisted of a starter of won ton soup, followed by Malaysian specialty nasi lemak, sambal prawns and chicken coated with Spanish crisps. For desert she served a coconut panna cotta with compressed freeze dried mango, with charred pineapple, pineapple air and a coconut tuile.
Greg Wallace called her impressive efforts and take on Malaysian flavours “Original, so damn clever, and delicious.” citing her as a clear winner of the show. The 32 year old mother from Bath describes the moment she realised she had won the competition, “The last time I felt such emotion was when my daughter was born. Something that I don’t think you get to experience a lot… Pure joy and pure bliss that feels incredible, epic.”
Masterchef will return to our screens this year, with a celebrity edition to be aired in June.
