HBO and Paramount have announced plans to adapt the 2010 blockbuster Shutter Island into a TV series, with director Michael Scorsese set to direct the pilot episode. Scorsese also directed the movie version which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and grossed nearly £300m worldwide.
Although the TV series is still in the very early stages of discussion, it is rumoured that the series will be entitled Ashcliffe, the name of the mental institution featured in the story. It is to be a prequel to the events of the movie and will explore the history of the hospital and its founders.
Writer Dennis Lehane, who wrote the 2003 novel, will be penning the series’ script if the plans go ahead. Details are still very vague at the moment but we can’t wait to hear more!
