American comedian Joan Rivers has died in a New York hospital, after she stopped breathing and suffered a cardiac arrest earlier last week. The new was confirmed by her daughter, Melissa Rivers.
Melissa said her mother died surrounded by her family and close friends.
“My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon,” said Melissa Rivers.
Rivers was famed for her sharp and satirical humour, famously opening with her trademark line: “Can we talk?”
Her most recent appearance was as host of E!’s Fashion Police, commenting on the unfortunate red carpet style choices of Hollywood’s most celebrated.
Our thoughts go out to the Rivers family.
