An 11 year-old boy was excluded from partaking in any of the events at his school’s World Book Day, because he was dressed as Christian Grey from the Fifty Shades of Grey movie and book series!
Liam Scholes, a year 7 pupil from Sale High School, Manchester, attended school dressed in a grey suit and carried cable ties and a face mask to imitate the BDSM obsessed character from the sexual book series. His mother received a call from the school later that day saying that Liam would not be allowed to be involved in school photographs and activities due to his costume.
His mother has spoken about her anger over this, particularly over the fact that one of his teachers was dressed as serial killer Dexter, she said:
I don’t see why sex is seen as more offensive than murder. If it was a primary school I could understand but it’s a secondary school and the book and the film have been everywhere – it’s one of the most famous books in recent years and it’s not like the pupils will be unaware of it.
Although it’s tricky grounds, I have to say I agree with the mother and child. We’ve had every last detail of Fifty Shades of Grey shoved down our throats from everywhere, at any time (This Morning’s BDSM segment, what even was that!?) so not many of the secondary school pupils would have been clueless. But, rules are rules…
