Star Wars: Episode VII will recreate Tatooine among the sand dunes of Abu Dhabi, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that director JJ Abrams and his team will spend four weeks near the capital of the United Arab Emirates. For the original Star Wars trilogy, the desert planet Tatooine was created in Tunisia as at the time, it was considered too politically unstable for a major Hollywood production.
Much is still unknown about Episode VII with continuing rumours suggesting that the key trio of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo, played by original stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, will return.
Fan favourite Chewbacca is heavily tipped to return also, with original actor Peter Mayhew set to put on the furry Wookie suit again.
London’s Pinewood Studios will home most of the shooting for the film which will have a Christmas 2015 release date. Alan Horn, the Disney chairman, said last week that filming had already begun on the new movie.
