Star Wars VII is picking up pace in terms of casting to whom the contenders are for the lead role. Director JJ Abrams and Disney have narrowed down their shortlist, believed by Variety to include Attack the Block’s John Boyega, Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons and Downton Abbey’s Ed Speleers.
Other actors have also been linked to the sci-fi movie which include: Benedict Cumberbatch, Zac Efron and Gary Oldman. US Comedy Girls star Adam Driver is rumoured to play the lead villain in Episode 7.
Little is known about the lead role or the plot. The children of Leia and Han Solo were previously thought to be at the storyline’s centre but now are said to be in supporting roles that follows from Return of the Jedi. With other rumours suggesting that the lead role will start as a Jedi apprentice.
Star Wars fans will be pleased that other rumours include the return of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrier Fisher in their iconic roles as Han, Luke and Leia respectively.
The film will be the first Star Wars since George Lucas sold the rights to Disney for £2.46bn. Shooting for Star Wars Episode 7 due to begin in London’s Pinewood Studios later this year, with a release date scheduled for 18 December 2015.
