Spring Breakers Gets A Sequel

One of the most controversial films of last year has rather surprisingly had a sequel confirmed

Source: Spring Breakers

Last years Spring Breakers was touted as of one of the most controversial films of the year with debates over whether or not it was sexist or pro-feminine. What is rather unexpected though is that today a sequel has been announced by one of the backers, Wild Bunch.

The original film saw a group of spring breakers including Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez join forces with James Franco to steal and rob various people. Inevitably they pissed off the wrong big boss man and had to go and fight him in a glorious finale. If you’ve seen the film then you will know that news of a sequel is rather surprising.

Wild Bunch have said: “It’s not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original” and that “…there will be a mix of cast members from the first film with new actors”. This time round the spring breakers take on militant Christians.

Harmony Korine who wrote and directed the original is apparently not involved and instead Jonas Akerlund will be in the chair with Irvine Welsh on script duty. Given the subject matter involved, he seems like the perfect writer to create the similar craziness of the first film.
